An education program for your staff
Thermo Fisher Scientific is proud to offer Cryo-EM University, an online educational program with more than 70 hours of freely accessible educational material covering a wide range of topics, including the SPA workflow. This course was designed to train you and your staff to become skilled cryo-electron microscopists in the shortest time possible.
Created in collaboration with online education expert Professor Grant Jensen of the California Institute of Technology, Cryo-EM-University serves as an introduction to the field but is intended for participants of all levels. Upon course completion, you will have gained a fundamental knowledge of cryo-EM, picked up tips and tricks for overcoming sample preparation challenges, and received valuable practical advice on the cryo-EM workflow.
The Cryo-EM University curriculum consists of two phases:
- Online instruction: Participants complete an online course at their own pace and will be awarded a certificate. The online instruction covers the fundamental principles of cryo-EM, including the basic anatomy of electron microscopes, an introduction to Fourier transforms, and the principles of image formation. Participants can take the entire course or study select topics. This phase culminates with an online theory test, which can be taken independently or as mandatory preparation for the second phase of instruction.
- Practical training: Upon completion of the online theory test, participants can subscribe to a four-week, hands-on, practical training course designed to supplement their theoretical knowledge. Organized in conjunction with partner institutes worldwide, this practical training consists of sample preparation, supervised microscopy, and individual data processing work.
